Creating lifelong learners one experience at a time.

Our mission is to teach learners to make daily connections about why the sciences are important. We must be Full STEAM Ahead in understanding our world in order to create the best future for humankind.

What is Transdisciplinary Learning?

We use the transdisciplinary approach when we design our classes at Full STEAM Ahead Education. By using multiple disciplines of learning in each class instead of only one content at a time, like Math or Science, we are able to integrate many perspectives of learning. This design separates us from how most general education classes are taught. We strive to connect our experiences to new knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of the world around us.

Best practices in a transdisciplinary environment do not compartmentalize learning, but rather explore content within the context of inquiry.

Meet the Team – Sisters with a New Vision for Learning

Laura Smith

Hello! I was raised in North Texas with a love for all things science! After graduating college in 2009 with my degree in Earth and Space Science Education, I became a middle school science teacher where I realized how important it is to learn the What and How of Science in multiple disciplines. It should be more than just memorizing information that has already been discovered! I received my M.Ed in Science Curriculum and Instruction in 2014 and began teaching university level courses that cover scientific theory and understanding how science works in all disciplines.

Along with being a part of Full STEAM Ahead Education, I am currently a Science Instructional Coach and Specialist, supporting teachers and students in grades PreK-5th and loving every bit of it! I have a passion for helping people apply new knowledge to their everyday life. FSA is a place where all learners, whether in public, private, home school, or out of school, have access to high quality and engaging learning experiences in a fun atmosphere!

Growing up, I always wanted to be a school teacher. I graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies- Early Childhood through 6th grade and have earned my Master’s degree in Special Education. I have taught elementary aged students from Kindergarten to 3rd grade and currently work as a Special Education teacher and Dyslexia Specialist in the elementary setting. My passion has always been in differentiating instruction and finding ways to reach all types of learners, especially those who learn in the non-traditional way.

My sister, Laura, and I have been dreaming of a way to reach more people in our community through science education. We finally took the plunge and decided to combine all of our skills and knowledge into creating Full Steam Ahead Education. We aim to reach learners of all ages and abilities and are excited to share these engaging and hands-on lessons, activities, and camps with you.
